James Morris

James Morris enters his third season as the Head Equipment Manager for Rhode Island athletics in 2021-22. He began in the role in March of 2019.

In his role, Morris oversees the equipment needs for all 18 varsity programs at URI. He also manages the equipment room staffs in both the Ryan Center and Keaney Gymnasium. Morris works directly with the football team, as well as the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Before joining the athletics department, Morris was the Director of Facilities for the Ryan Center from 2014 through May of 2019. In that role, he managed all building operations and maintenance for more than 100 events per year. While overseeing a full-time staff of five and a part-time staff of more than 60 employees, he also conducted audits for building repairs and improvements.

From 2014-16, Morris managed capital renovation projects in excess of $2 million, including roofing repairs, sound upgrades, video and marquee boards replacements, LED arena lighting installation, a new basketball court installation, basketball locker room renovation, IT upgrades, and multiple HVAC overhauls. All of which were completed with-in budget.

From 2009-14, Morris was the Operations Manager for the Ryan Center and Boss Ice Arena.

Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Roger Williams University in 2003.
