Dr. Kevin T.McGinniss is in his sixth year as the associate director ofathletics for development. McGinniss owns a strong educational andprofessional background which includes more than 25 years ofexperience as an educator, author, coach, athletics administratorand athlete. In his role at URI, McGinniss heads up all aspects offundraising for the athletics department. Since his arrival at URIin 2007 athletics fundraising has achieved record levels. Inhis first four years at URI he led the athletics component of URI's$100 million "Making a Difference" capital campaign,securing more than $12 million in total operational, capitalproject and endowment support for URI Athletics, surpassing theCampaign goal for Athletics’ by more than 20%. 

Under his watchURI Athletics has procured almost $5 million in philanthropicsupport for capital improvements inclusive of major upgrades to thebaseball facility, eight new tennis courts, and thesoon-to-be-constructed state-of-the-art strength, conditioning andperformance center. McGinniss also serves as the Athleticsdepartment's liaison to the URI Foundation and URI AlumniAssociation.

In January of2012, McGinnis was featured in a profile piece on the Eastern CollegeAthletic Conference website. "Getting to Know Our Neighbors" isa weekly series presented in Q&A format that examines theexperiences and career paths of coaches, administrators, supportstaff and student-athletes within the ECAC footprint.

Before arrivingin Kingston, McGinniss served as director of athletics at MercyCollege in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. In recognition of his efforts, he wasnominated to receive the 2007 National Association of CollegiateDirectors of Athletics (NACDA) Division II Athletics Director ofthe Year Award.

From 2001-05,McGinniss served as the director of athletics development atQuinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. He was responsible forcoordinating all fundraising for athletics, including a majorcomponent of the New Millennium Campaign - $25 million for astate-of-the-art athletics center.

McGinniss'experience in higher education administration also includes servingSouthern Connecticut State University as its director of athleticsdevelopment and director of alumni affairs. He has also served asthe director of athletics and recreation at Lehman College and TheCity University of New York. In addition, McGinniss was thedirector of athletics development and executive director of theBlue & Gray Club at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, KingsPoint, N.Y.

A former men'sbasketball coach, McGinniss was the head coach at Lehman Collegeand in only his second year as head coach led a program with just acombined eight wins over the previous four years to the CUNYACNorth Division title and an ECAC post-season tournament bid. Healso served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, helping leadSouthern Connecticut State University to a 20-win season and apostseason berth in 1992.

Active inprofessional organizations both locally and on the national level,McGinniss has served as Vice-Chair for the Council for Advancementand Support of Education (CASE) District I Board of Directors, is amember of the National Association of Athletic DevelopmentDirectors, National Association of Collegiate Directors ofAthletics, National Association of Basketball Coaches ResearchCommittee, and serves the Eastern College Athletic Conference(ECAC) as its President-Elect.

McGinnissearned his bachelor's degree in health, master's degree in physicaleducation/athletics administration and a sixth year professionaldiploma of advanced graduate studies in educational leadership allfrom Southern Connecticut State University. He received hisdoctorate in education from the Teachers College Department ofHealth and Behavior Studies at Columbia University.

Kevin and hiswife, Amy, have a son, Kyle, and daughter, Kelly.
