Kristen Folan joined the Rhode Island Academic Advising staff as an advisor and learning specialist in July of 2021.
In her role, Folan works directly with student-athletes from URI’s football, women’s basketball and swimming & diving programs.
Folan came to Rhode Island after serving as the director of student athlete success at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn. during the 2020-21 academic year. She worked with all 15 varsity athletic teams assisting student-athletes with academics, employment and social life skills. Folan also served as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor and supervised a team of interns.
Folan also has spent time at UMass Amherst (2019-20) and Springfield College (2018-2020) in academic support roles. While at Springfield College, she worked with student-athletes at both Springfield and Western New England University.
She worked with youth and high school student-athletes as a mental performance intern with RPM Athletics in 2019-20.
Folan earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Assumption College in 2018. She completed a master’s degree in Psychology with a concentration in Athletic Counseling from Springfield College in 2020.
