Stone Freeman joined the Rhode Island athletic department as an assistant athletic director of media relations in September of 2025. He serves as the primary media contact for football, women's track and field, baseball, and rowing
Freeman’s day-to-day media tasks include coordinating interviews between student-athletes, coaches, and media, creating content for GoRhody.com, creating game notes for media, and assisting with game day and event operations. He has an extensive background in college athletics that include time spent in corporate sales, fundraising, NIL, alumni relations, and media relations.
Freeman has served the URI community in a variety of roles including Program Manager for Alumni Engagement in the URI Foundation, Executive Director of Rhody Excellence, and Manager of Business Development for Rhody Sports Properties, the Learfield-run corporate sales entity for URI Athletics. He also has served as a play-by-play broadcasting of URI Athletics events on the Varsity Network, ESPN+, FloFootball.com and WRIU.
Freeman earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism from URI in 2019 and a master’s degree in Communications from URI in 2021. He also serves as a part-time faculty member in the Harrington School of Communications.
