CINCINNATI, OHIO -
Rhode Island junior Shannon Kittelson collected a goal and an assist but top-seed Dayton advanced to the 2000 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship match with a 4-2 win over the fourth-seeded Rams tonight at Xavier's Concoran Field.
This was the first trip ever to the A-10 Championship for URI, which finished a record-setting campaign with a 15-4-1 mark. In Sunday's conference final, the Flyers will face Xavier, which held off Massachuetts, 1-0, in tonight's second semifinal match.
The Rams spotted Dayton a 2-0 advantage before Kittelson put URI on the board in the 63rd minute. Kittelson drilled the ball into the upper corner for her 13th goal of the season to close the gap to 2-1.
The Flyers regained their two-goal at 68:23 on Judi Aschenbrener's goal. Dayton's Missy Gregg made it 4-1 on a score in the 81st minute. With just over five minutes to play, URI senior Stephanie Boisvert converted a pass from Kittelson to close the gap to 4-2.
Juniors Shannon Kittelson and Catherine Zanni were named to the 2000 Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team.
