PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Massachusetts outscored Rhode Island 25-0 during an
11:23 stretch in the first half en route to a 57-37 victory Tuesday.
Tavorris Bell led all scorers with 15 for Rhode Island (5-22, 2-11 Atlantic
10), which lost its 10th straight and tied a school record for most losses in a
season. It was Rhode Island's lowest-scoring home game since a 34-30 loss to
Springfield College in January 1937.
After trailing 11-4 early on, Massachusetts (15-11, 9-4) used the 25-0 run
to grab the lead for good. Micah Brand led the Minutemen with 14 points.
Ahead 29-15 at the break, Massachusetts traded baskets with Rhode Island in
the second half before using a 10-0 spurt midway through the period to take its
biggest lead of the game, 51-25 with 7:59 left.
