Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated With Victory Over Providence

KINGSTON, R.I. - Sophomore Gina Rosen scored a pair of goals to lead the Rhode Island Rams to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Providence College Friars in a non-conference match at the URI Soccer Complex on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Rams kept alive their winning streak and are now 8-0 for the season and off to the best start in school history.

The Rams had control throughout most of the first half, taking 10 shots while the Friars were held shot less for the first 45 minutes. The two teams would head into halftime with a scoreless tie.

Early in the second half, Rosen put in a cross from junior Shannon Kittelson to give Rhode Island a 1-0 lead at the 47:21 mark. Rosen would add her second goal of the game on a rebound after a shot from junior Catherine Zanni at the 56:46 mark to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage.

For the game, Rhode Island outshot Providence by a 21-1 margin. Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Haines made seven saves in goal in the setback for Providence while sophomore Jamie Epperlein had one save in net for Rhode Island in the victory.

The Rams will return to action on Sunday, September 24 when they host New Hampshire at the URI Soccer Complex at 1:00 p.m.
