PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Jason Forte scored 22 points and Brown used a 23-9
run late in the game Friday night to pull away for a 91-76 victory over Rhode
Island.
Brown (7-2) led 62-60 with 10:51 to play, but went on the 23-9 run over the
next 6:52. Mike Martin capped the run with a 3-pointer to give the Bears an
85-69 lead with four minutes to play. Forte, a freshman point guard who was 9
of 11 from the field, had seven points in the run.
Alai Nuualiitia had 20 points for the Bears and Earl Hunt added 18.
Troy Wiley led Rhode Island (4-7) with 25 points and Dustin Hellenga went 5
for 10 from 3-point range for 20 points.
The Bears took a 29-18 lead to open the game, but the Rams went on a 21-9
run, paced by Wiley with eight points, for a 39-38 lead with 2:16 to play in
the first half.
Nuualiitia's 3-pointer and two free throws by Hunt gave Brown a 43-40
halftime lead.
The victory was Brown's first against the Rams since 1993. The Bears also
beat Providence this season, giving them their first sweep of their two
in-state Division 1 rivals since the 1953-54 season.
