Rams Hold Off Brown, 42-38

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1957 Saturday when David Jamison scored on a 17-yard run with seven seconds to play for a 42-38 victory over Brown.

Brown (0-2) took a 38-35 lead with 1:03 left when Kyle Rowley threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Chas Gessner.

The Bears were flagged for a personal foul on Shane Laisle's successful extra-point, forcing them to kick off from their 20-yard line. Moses Tajong returned the ball 24 yards to midfield and Jamison scored four plays later on a draw play.

Rowley completed 36 of 54 passes and set Brown and Ivy League records for most yards passing in a game with 474. Gessner set school and league marks for yards receiving in a game with 269.

Jamison finished with 197 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The Bears trailed most of the game but went in front 24-21 early in the fourth quarter when Travis Rowley, Kyle's brother, threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Gessner on an option play. Rhode Island countered with a 3-yard touchdown run by Tajong for a 28-24 lead.

Brown needed just five plays to reel off 82 yards which Kyle Rowley capped by scoring on a 4-yard run for a 31-28 lead.

Vince Nedimyer squeezed into the end zone from the 3 on the next possession for a 35-31 Rams lead.

Rhode Island led 21-10 at halftime. The Rams' victory was their 20th in the 86-year history of the series with Brown.
