Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision Against Providence

Providence, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision against intra-state rival Providence at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. on Sunday afternoon.

Providence got on the board first when BriAnne Bruni connected on a pass from Lauren Ritchie to give the Friars a 1-0 lead at the 24:11 mark. PC took the one goal lead into halftime.

Despite out shooting Providence by a 4-3 margin in the second half, Rhode Island was unable to overcome the deficit as Providence held on for the 1-0 victory.

Freshman Melissa Bargione had five stops in goal for Rhode Island while Caroline Haines made three stops for Providence.

With the loss Rhode Island falls to 2-4 while Providence improves to 5-2-1. The Rams will return to action on Wednesday, September 24th when they host Boston University at the URI Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m.
