Women's Soccer Defeated By No.28 Dayton 5-1

DAYTON, Ohio - The Rhode Island (7-7-2,4-1-2) women's soccer team fell 5-1 to the No. 28 Dayton (14-1-0,7-0-0) women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.

The Rams owned the first 15 minutes of the game scoring first, with a goal from freshman Debra Nelson (Chepachet, R.I.) in the ninth minute. Nelson took a pass through the middle of the field from junior Megan Kasparek (Trumbull, Conn.) to beat Dayton goalkeeper Stacy DeLuca with a lofted shot from 18 yards out.

Rhode Island would hold the Flyers scoreless through most of the first half but with just two minutes left Daytons' Meghan Borysiak notched a goal from 12 yards out for the 1-1 tie leading into halftime.

The Flyers momentum would continue into the second to score four goals for the 5-1 win.

Freshman Thorunn Helga Jonsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) took three shots for the Rams and goalkeeper Ria Carroll (Warwick, R.I.) made eight saves on the day. Kirsten Marra (Wallingford, Conn.) entered the game for the Rams with 17 minutes left to play.

The Rams will be back in action on Friday at the URI Soccer Complex as they take on La Salle at 7:00 p.m. Rhode Island will also take on Fordham on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
