The Rhode Island women's soccer team lost to the La Salle Explorers 1-0 on Friday in Kingston, R.I.
La Salle scored the 1-0 advantage with 21:44 left in the first half when Kim Lisun crossed to Kristen Hextall. Hextall then headed the ball to the back of the net for the tally.
The Explorers tried to put another on the board but goalkeeper Ria Carroll broke up the 2-on-1 for the save.
In the second half Rhody out-shot the Explorers 8-4. Molly Bergren (North Kingstown, R.I.) had a big defensive save for Rhode Island off a shot from Hextall which could have been goal two for La Salle, but Bergren made the block before it had the chance.
Rhode Island could not upend La Salle's 1-0 lead as the Explorers added another conference win to their record. Rhode Island is now 7-8-2 and 4-2-2 in A-10 play while the Explorers are 8-6-2 and 4-4-0. Thorunn Helga Jonsdottir (Rekyjavik, Iceland) had four shots for the Rams while Debra Nelson (Chepachet, R.I.) and Lauren Forgione (Southington, Conn.) each added two.
The Rams will be back in action on Sunday as they take on the Fordham Rams at 1:00 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex on Senior Day.
