Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. - Freshman Thorunn Helga Jonsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) had the game-winning goal for Rhode Island as Rhody upended Fordham 1-0 in double overtime. Jonsdottir earned the goal at 104:23 on a corner as the Rams improve to 8-8-2, 5-2-2 while Fordham falls to 8-5-2, 3-5-1 for the 2004 campaign.

Rhode Island and Fordham battled through a scoreless first half with Rhody out-shooting Fordham 6-5. Rhody had a chance at a goal 25:00 minutes into play when Claire Landon (Bedford, N.H.) crossed to Debra Nelson (Chepachet, R.I.) who headed the ball to the top right of the goal. Goalkeeper Julie Wynns was able to make the save to hold the score at 0-0.

Rhode Island kept the pressure on as Megan Kasparek (Trumbull, Conn.) took a shot from the left with three minutes left in the first half but unfortunately it skimmed the goal post and Wynn made the save.

The second half also went scoreless but not before Rhode Island got a scare from Fordham's Beth Purcell at 40:57, but the ball was sent too high and the score remained at 0-0.

As the second half winded down, Ria Carroll (Warwick, R.I.) made a key save for Rhode Island with just 48 seconds to play in regulation.

The first overtime period went scoreless and the game was forced into a double overtime. With just five minutes left to play, Jonsdottir took a corner that landed the Rams the 1-0 win.

The Rams will be back in action on Friday in Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on Duquesne at 7:00 p.m.
