Women's Soccer Tops St. Bonaventure 1-0 As Rams Clinch Bye In First Round Of The Atlantic 10 Tournament

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Junior Melanie Kasparek (Trumbull, Conn.) scored the lone goal in the 1-0 shutout win over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Sunday afternoon. The Rams finish the season 10-8-2 overall and 7-2-2 in A-10 play with the win and also move to the second place spot in Atlantic 10 standings. The Bonnies finish the season 8-10-2 overall and 1-8-2 in the Atlantic 10.

Kasparek scored in the 16th minute of play off passes from sister Megan Kasparek (Trumbull, Conn.) and freshman Debra Nelson (Chepachet, R.I.).

Melanie Kasparek also led the team in shots with four, followed by freshman Thorunn Helga Jonsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) with three and Megan Kasparek with two.

Goalkeeper Ria Carroll (Warwick, R.I.) earned the shutout win making three saves while St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Lisa Eberhart made five.

The Rams will be back in action at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship in Amherst, Mass. that will take place November 4-7th. Rhode Island will play on November 5th at 1:00 p.m. against the highest remaining seed from the quarterfinals.
