Rams Run Past Minutemen, 73-66

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Rhode Island went on a 14-2 second-half run, propelling the Rams to a 73-66 victory over Massachusetts on Wednesday night.

A 3-pointer by Jeff Viggiano gave UMass (9-14, 3-8 Atlantic 10) its last lead, 46-45, with 13:10 to play.

Scott Hazelton then scored a basket and Brian Woodward and Dustin Hellenga followed with 3-pointers to put Rhode Island in charge.

The Rams (15-11, 4-8) had lost 8 of their last 10 games.

Rhode Island led 36-33 at halftime, but UMass forged in front, 40-39, on a hoop followed by a 3-pointer by Maurice Maxwell.

Woodward had 18 points, Hazelton 14 and Dawan Robinson 13 for the Rams.

Anthony Anderson was high for UMass with 19 points, followed by Maxwell with 17 and Viggiano with 11.

The teams were tied at 28 late in the first half before two free throws by Robinson and a hoop by Woodward put the Rams on top.
