Women's Soccer Defeats Hartford

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's soccer team defeated Hartford with a 4-1 win on Sunday in the second home game of the 2004 campaign.

The Rams attacked with just over two minutes into the game as senior Claire Landon (Bedford, N.H.) crossed to Melanie Kasparek (Trumbull, Conn.) for goal number one.

The Hawks would answer the Ram goal with their own as Stephanie Pothier netted a goal on a pass from Erin Mucha tying the game at 1-1. With a minute left to play in the first Aimee Lambert (Fairport, N.Y.) knocked in the cross from Melanie Kasparek (Trumbull, Conn.) to break the tie.

The Rams dominated the second half scoring two goals with 7 shots on goal. Freshman Jessica Gadd (Florence, Ky.) scored on a loose ball from Landon to raise the Rams to a 3-1 lead. The Rams netted their fourth goal with 10 minutes left to play as the Kasparek twins took control of the ball. Melanie Kasparek scored on a pass from Megan Kasparek to earn her second goal for the game.

Goalkeeper Ria Carroll had another win in goal making a total of four saves and allowing only one goal.

The Rams are now 4-4-0 on the season and will be back in action on Friday, September 24 when they take on Boston University at 5:00 p.m.
