The women's soccer team out-shot the New Hampshire Wildcats 19-8 on Sunday but was defeated 1-0 with just 6:13 minutes remaining.
The Rams held the Wildcats scoreless through the first half, dominating the game with eight shots compared to New Hampshire's two. With just 6:13 to go in the second, Adriana Gonzalez-Medina netted a goal for the Wildcats to put the score at 1-0.
The Rams fought back and pressed to tie the game for the remainder of the second half. Senior Kelly McTurk (Niantic, Conn.) who had a total of three shots for the game, had a chance on a header from 10 yards out which sailed just high of the crossbar. Three minutes remaining, Thorunn Helga Jonsdottirs' (Reykjavik, Iceland) corner sailed in low and was scooped up by the Wildcats. The Rams kept the pressure going as senior Claire Landon (Bedford, N.H.), with one minute remaining, gave the Wildcats a scare as her shot was blocked at the goal line. Landon had a total of four shots on the game.
The Rams will take on A-10 opponent Temple on Friday at home in the second A-10 match-up for the Rams this season. Rhody won its first A-10 match-up of the 2004 season defeating UMass 4-1.
