WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT A-10 GAME, 5-2, OVER DUQUESNE

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island (8-4-1, 4-0-0 A-10) seniors Melanie Kasparek and Megan Kasparek combined for seven points with three goals and one assist in the Rams, 5-2 victory over Duquesne (9-4-1, 4-3-0 A-10) in Atlantic -10 women's soccer action Sunday.

Melanie scored her 11th goal of the season two minutes and 55 seconds into the game. Freshman midfielder Dora Larusdottir sent a long shot into the box, which Megan tipped to Melanie to giving the Rams the early 1-0 lead.

Megan scored her fifth goal of the season unassisted at the 20:45 mark in the first half.

Almost eight minutes later Melanie found the net on an over the shoulder shot, with the assist from senior forward Kayla Reels. Melanie's 12th goal of the season put URI up 3-0.

Audra Mathews put the Dukes on the board with six minutes and 13 seconds left in the first half on a long shot from 25-yards out, slipping into the far left corner of the Rams goal.

Sophomore forward Debra Nelson who led the Rams with four shots on goal, scored the final two goals of the game. Her first goal came one minute and 35 seconds into the second half of action. Nelson scored her fourth goal of the season to give URI the 5-1 advantage at the 58:31 mark.

Duquesne's Erica Carey scored the final goal of the game on a penalty kick with 25 minutes and 14 seconds left in regulation.

URI senior goalkeeper Ria Carroll had six saves thru 67 minutes of play, picking up her eighth win of the season. Kirsten Marra, the Rams other senior goalkeeper played 23 minutes and tagged two saves.

The Rams out shot the Dukes 22 to 14 with a 12 to 10 shot on goal advantage.

Rhode Island women's soccer will be on the road for the rest of the season. The Rams kick-off their four-game road stint at La Salle on Friday (Oct.21) at 3:00 p.m.
