KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island women's soccer (6-4, 2-0) shut out Fordham (5-5-1, 0-2-0) Sunday, 4-0 in both teams second conference match-up of the season. The shut out was the second of the week for URI. The Rams shut out St. Bonaventure (1-7-0, 0-1-0) on Friday, 5-0.
Rhode Island goalie Ria Carroll gets the shut out with four saves on the day. Fordham's goalie Julie Wynns made 16 saves on URI's 22 shots.
Sophomore Debra Nelson scored the first goal for Rhode Island at the 8:27 mark with an assist from freshman Dora Larusdottir.
The score remained 1-0 until six minutes into the second half Larusdottir put the Rams up 2-0 with an assist from senior Leah Ward-Smith.
Senior Melanie Kasparek scored her ninth goal of the season to give Rhode Island the 3-0 advantage with 11 and a half minutes left in regulation. She was assisted by twin sister Megan Kasparek and freshman Becca Fish.
Three minutes later Fish scored the fourth goal of the game off a pass from Megan.
URI out shot Fordham 22 to ten having 20 shots on goal compared to Fordham's four.
Rhode Island will take a break from A-10 action as it heads to Boston to take-on Harvard (5-3-1, 0-1-1) at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.
