Baseball Downs George Washington, 9-8

ARLINGTON, VA-

The University of Rhode Island basball team (14-5, 4-1 A-10) scored one run in the seventh inning and six more in the eighth to overcome a 8-2 defecit in their 9-8 victory over George Washington (6-19, 0-5 A-10) on Saturday afternoon at Barcroft Park. 

URI took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run from junior first baseman Ryan Cunningham.  Cunningham finished with two hits, two runs scored and a RBI. He was one of four Rams to record two hits in the game. Sophomore catcher Zach Zaneski and junior rightfielder Scott Brown each had two hits and one run scored while senior Josh Nestor went 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Senior second baseman Wayne Russo finished the game with a hit, a RBI and one run scored. 

Reliever Adam Perkins (1-2) took the mound for the Rams in the fifth inning and finished the final five frames, allowing one run on two hits while striking  out seven to earn the win.

The final game of the series is Sunday at 12:00 p.m. in Arlington.
