Baseball Defeats Brown 5-4 On Wednesday

The University of Rhode Island baseball team handed Brown their first loss in seven games on Wednesday at Aldrich Field in Providence. The Rams (18-6) defeated the Bears (8-14) 5-4 in the first of two seven inning games.  The second game was called after four innings due to darkness.

The Rams scored the winning run in the seventh inning off a double to right-center by senior catcher Josh Nestor to score sophomore third-baseman Shaun Hagey.

Hagey went 3-for-4 with a run scored while teammates Nestor and sophomore shortstop Mike O'Malley each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

Senior Tom Venedam picked up the win for the Rams.  Venedam pitched the last third of the fifth and the entire sixth innings giving up one run on three hits.  Sophomore Brett Palanski came on in the seventh to pick up the save.

The Rams travel to Philadelphia this weekend for a three game series with Temple.  The games will be Friday (3:30 pm), Saturday (1:00 pm) and Sunday (1:00 pm).
