Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against La Salle, 4-1, And 8-1

KINGSTON, RI -

The Rams (16-6, 6-2 A-10) defeated La Salle (9-19, 4-4 A-10) on Sunday afternoon in both games of a doubleheader at Bill Beck Field in Kingston. 

Game 1 - Win 4-1

Junior Stephen Holmes earned his fifth win of the season after pitching eight innings giving up only one run on three hits while striking out 10. Senior Tom Venedam picked up his second save of the season after pitching the ninth inning giving up only one hit and no runs. It was also his school-record 69th career appearance.

The Rams put up four runs in the seventh after being down by one.  The seventh inning surge began on a single to right-field by Junior first-baseman Ryan Cunningham.  Cunningham later scored on a double down the right-field line by Sophomore designated hitter Zach Zaneski.  The Rams scored three more runs on a fielding error off of a deep fly ball hit by junior center-fielder Dave Savard.

Zaneski finished the game with two hits on three at-bats including a run scored and a RBI.

Game 2 - Win 8-1

The Rams started the second game of the doubleheader strong as they put up six runs in the first inning.  Junior Adam Perkins earned the win after pitching six innings giving up only one run on six hits while striking out seven.  Sophomore Brett Palanski came on to close the game in the seventh.  Palanski struck out two and gave up only one hit.

Sophomore third-baseman Shaun Hagey went 2-for-3 with two RBI while teammate senior Josh Nestor went 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Sophomore left-fielder C.J. Simons had a hit, a RBI and two runs scored.

Junior right-fielder Scott Brown finished the game with a hit, a run scored and two RBI. 

The Rams travel to Hamden, Conn. to play Quinnipiac on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
