Basebase Comes Up Short In 21-4 Loss At New Mexico

March 11, 2007

Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Junior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) turned in a 3-for-4 performance against New Mexico but it wasn't enough as the Lobos picked up their third win over the Rams in as many days, sweeping the series with a 21-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Isotpoes Park in Albuquerque, N.M.

Down 4-0 in the top of the third inning, redshirt sophomore Chris Parkinson (Utica, N.Y.) and senior Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) drew back-to-back walks before Zaneski sent an RBI single to the left side, scoring Parkinson and getting the Rams on the board. Rhody cut the Lobos' lead in half the following inning when senior Eric Larson (Bradenton, Fla.) led off with double to left center and then advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on classmate Dan Tucker's (Warwick, R.I.) ground-out to short stop.

UNM responded with two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the seventh before erupting for a 12-run eighth inning and a 21-2 advantage.

With one out in the top of the ninth, Tucker singled to right field and advanced to third when sophomore Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) doubled to left. Savard followed with a two-out single through the right side that scored both Tucker and Rhault. That was as close as Rhody would get though, ending the game with a 21-4 loss.

Freshman Nick Greenwood (Southington, Conn.) was charged with the loss, giving up three hits and four earned runs in two innings while New Mexico's Jacob Norton grabbed the win after allowing two runs in five innings.

The Rams (1-9) return to action next weekend when they travel to California for a three-game series with the Golden Bears, beginning Friday night, March 16, at 5:00 p.m. (ET).
