Baseball Drops Final Game Of Series At California, 6-2

BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) went 3-for-5 while classmate Scott Brown (Portland, Maine) turned in two RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team was defeated by California, 6-2, on Sunday, March 18 at Evans Diamond in Berkeley, Calif.

David Cooper gave the Bears an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning before Cal extended its lead to 4-0 on a three-hit second inning.

Brown put URI on the board in the top of the third when he plated senior Eric Larson (Bradenton, Fla.) with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Bears picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth, extending their lead to 5-1, before Brown recorded an RBI on Rhode Island's only other run of the game. Junior Shaun Hagey (Ephrata, Pa.) hit a fifth-inning single up the middle and advanced to third on Savard's double to right before scoring on Brown's ground out to second base.

Junior Brett Palanski (Nashua, N.H.) was charged with the loss after giving up six runs in seven innings while Cal's Alex Rollin picked up the win in 6.2 innings of work.

The Rams (2-11) return to action on Wednesday, March 21, when they travel to Hartford for a 3:00 p.m. meeting with the Hawks.
