Box Score
BOSTON, Mass. - Rhode Island senior Eric Larson (Bradenton, Fla.) went 3-for-5 and classmate Ryan Cunningham (Centreville, Va.) sent a two-run round-tripper to left center in the Rams' 11-inning 5-4 loss at Northeastern on Tuesday, March 27. Freshman Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) also turned in a multiple-hit performance for URI, recording a double and an RBI single.
Northeastern took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run blast by Dan Milano and extended its lead with another run in the third inning before the Rhody bats came alive in the top of the fourth.
Junior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) got things started with a one-out single to first and was plated on Cunningham's second homerun of the season. Senior Scott Brown (Portland, Maine) went on to tie things up on a wild pitch before Larson gave URI the lead on Palmer's RBI single up the middle.
The Huskies knotted the score with Josh Porter's solo-shot in the sixth inning but neither team was able to seal the victory until Northeastern's Milano scored the winning run on a two-out 11th-inning single to center by Mike Lyon.
Freshman starter Eric Smith (Milford, Conn.) struck out four batters and gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings while junior closer Jamie Degidio (Narragansett, R.I.), who struck out four batters in two-and-a-third innings on the mound, was charged with the loss after giving up three hits and one run. Dan Zehr picked up the win in one inning of work for Northeastern.
Rhody returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. game at Marist.
