Baseball Comes Up Short In 5-2 Loss At St. Bonaventure

April 22, 2007

Box Score

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - A fifth-inning triple by Rhode Island sophomore Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) scored the Rams only two runs as URI fell to St. Bonaventure, 5-2, on Sunday, April 22. The Bonnies' Jim Britton pitched a complete game to earn the win while senior James Norcott (Norton, Mass.) was charged with the loss after giving up all five SBU runs (four earned) in four-and-a-third innings on the mound.

St. Bonaventure scored twice in the first inning and two more times in the second for a 4-0 lead before the Rams got their first hit of the game in the fifth inning. Junior Zach Zaneski (Centreville, Va.) drew a lead-off walk before freshman Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) singled to left center to bring senior Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) to the plate with no outs. Savard's ground out put Zaneski and Palmer in scoring position for Rhault, who picked up two RBI on a triple to left center.

The Bonnies plated another run in the bottom of the fifth to pick up the 5-2 win and avoid the series sweep.

With the loss, Rhode Island drops to 10-23 (7-8 Atlantic 10) while St. Bonaventure improves to 14-18 (6-8 Atlantic 10).

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, April 24, when they host Sacred Heart in a doubleheader set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
