Box Score
BRONX, N.Y. - Senior Gregg Allen (Dighton, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored as the Rhode Island baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision to Fordham on Friday night at Houlihan Park. Junior starter Brett Palanski (Nashua, N.H.) was charged with the loss, giving up eight hits and six runs (four earned) in four innings on the hill.
Fordham scored early and often with a two runs in the first inning, one in the second and one in the third before taking a 6-0 lead with two more runs in the fourth inning.
Rhody finally got on the board in the top of the fifth after Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.), Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) and Scott Brown (Portland, Maine) strung together back-to-back-to-back singles and all scored on Allen's first triple of the season. Junior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) then plated Allen with an RBI single down the right field line to bring the score to 6-4.
Redshirt junior Matt Miranda (Suffern, N.Y.) releived Palanski in the bottom of the inning and gave up just two hits and one run the remainder of the way, but URI failed to get on the board again and saw its eight-game win streak come to an end with a 7-4 loss.
URI and Fordham will meet again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. before closing out the three-game series with a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday.
