Baseball Defeats Saint Joseph's, 6-2

May 18, 2007

Box Score

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - Senior James Norcott (Norton, Mass.) held Saint Joseph's to just two hits over eight innings as the Rhode Island baseball team recorded a 6-2 win over the Hawks on Friday afternoon at Latshaw-McCarthy Field in Norristown, Pa. Offensively, the Rams were led by senior Scott Brown (Portland, Maine), who went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and three RBI.

The Rams (21-28, 15-11 Atlantic 10) did most of their damage in the second inning as junior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) led off with a single to center and advanced to third on classmate Mike O'Malley's (Nashua, N.H.) base hit to right field. Junior Shaun Hagey (Ephrata, Pa.) was then walked to load the bases before SJU starter Pat Monaghan sent senior Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) to first with a base on balls which plated Zaneski. Brown then collected three RBI on a single to center field and made the score 5-0 on senior Eric Larson's (Bradenton, Fla.) base hit to left.

The Hawks (10-38, 6-20 Atlantic 10) scored twice in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Mike Boyland, but that's as close as they would get as URI shut down the Saint Joseph's offense the remainder of the way.

Brown scored once more, in the top of the ninth, on a double to left center by Larson and junior pitched Jamie Degidio (Narragansett, R.I.) closed things out in the bottom of the inning to give the Rams the 6-2 victory

The two teams will meet for series finale, tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
