Box Score
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore
Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) was 2-for-4 and used an eighth-inning double to spark the Rhode Island baseball team's comeback in a 3-2 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore, Saturday afternoon at Hawks Stadium in Princess Anne, Md. Senior starter
Brett Palanski (Nashua, N.H.) gave up five hits and one earned run in six innings of work while sophomore reliever
Dan Rossignol (Nashua, N.H.) earned the win.
UMES got on the board first, as Russel Deutschmann blasted a leadoff triple to right center in the fourth inning and crossed the plate on Kenny Richardson's foul out to right field.
Rhody evened the score in the top of the fifth when freshman Evan Laude (Long Beach, N.Y.) singled through the right side and advanced to second on classmate Casey Ide's (Alexandria, Va.) sacrifice bunt back to the mound. Freshman Kenny Burns (Shelton, Conn.) then reached first and advanced the runners on a fielding error by UMES second baseman Remo Orsini before Palmer's sac fly to left scored Laude to tie things up, 1-1.
The Hawks went back up by one in the top of the fifth, but sophomore Zoey Angulo (Miami, Fla.) plated Palmer with an eighth-inning game-tying single to center and scored the go-ahead run for Rhody on sophomore Rob Deveney's (Marlton, N.J.) RBI double to left.
Rossignol pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth before senior closer Jamie Degidio (Narragansett, R.I.) locked up the win for Rhody with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Both Palmer and Deveney went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the victory while Palanski earned the win and Degidio picked up the save.
Rhode Island (1-4) returns to action later this afternoon when it faces Pittsburgh at Hawks Stadium.
