Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. - Sophomore Rob Deveney (Marlton, R.J.) crushed his second homerun of the season and finished the day with three RBI in the Rhode Island baseball team's 8-6 loss to Northeastern, Tuesday afternoon. The game - which was originally scheduled to take place in Boston - was played at URI's Bill Beck Field due to unplayable field conditions at Northeastern.

Sophomore starter Dan Rossignol (Nashua, N.H.) lasted five innings and struck out eight batters while walking just two. Junior reliever Luke Demko (Gilford, N.H.) was charged with the loss, giving up two base hits in the top of the eighth before senior Jamie Degidio (Narragansett, R.I.) gave up a two-out three-run bomb to seal the win for NU.

Rhody took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as freshmen Evan Laude (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Tom Coulombe (Lincoln, R.I.) hit back-to-back RBI singles to center field, plating freshman Robert Noe (Lynnfield, Mass.) and sophomore John Rusin (East Amherst, N.Y.).

The Huskies (9-8) used an RBI double to left by Mike Lyon to cut the Rams' lead in half the following inning before Frank Compagnone's three-run shot to left capped a four-run fourth inning which put Northeastern up, 5-2.

Deveney's two-run homer in the fifth got URI within one before senior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) tied things up with a bases-loaded single to left that scored Coulombe. Deveney followed with a sac-fly to plate senior Mike O'Malley (Nashua, N.H.) and put the Rams back on top, 6-5, but Frank Pasanello's three-run homerun in the top of the eighth pushed the Huskies ahead for the 8-6 win.

The Rhode Island pitching staff combined for 15 strikeouts while Zaneski, Laude, Coulombe and sophomore Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished with two hits each.

Northeastern's Sheldon McDonald earned the win, allowing just one hit and one walk in 2.2 innings of work.

The Rams (6-13) return to action tomorrow afternoon, when they host Marist at 3 p.m .
