Sacramento State Defeats Rhode Island, 13-1

FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Rhode Island softball team suffered a 13-1 loss to Sacramento State Friday morning in non-conference action at the Fresno State Invitational. The game was called after five innings.

Freshman Stacey Stanovich (Northbridge, Mass.) started and went three innings for the Rams (1-7), allowing nine hits and eight earned runs while striking out three. The Rams lone run on the afternoon came in the fourth on an RBI single by junior Rachel Rosenwasser (Montgomery, N.Y.) that scored sophomore Melissa Wilson (Longview, Wash).

Sacramento State scored three runs in the first, highlighted by a pair of RBI singles by Rachel Miles and Teri Ann Caoagan. After tacking on a run in the second, the Hornets exploded for four more runs in the third and five in the fifth to build a commanding 13-1 lead. Amy Tomkins and Whitney Loomis each laced two-run singles for Sacramento State.

Kalya Meeks started for the Hornets and allowed five hits and one run while striking out four.

The Rams were set to face Houston at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon.
