KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Quinnipiac University Wednesday afternoon at the URI Softball Field. The Rams (10-19) won game one 1-0 and game two 8-6 in six innings.

The Rams scored the only run of game one in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore Darci Borden (Elma, Wash.) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a throwing error by Bobcats starting pitcher Carolyn Schmolz. Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) allowed just three hits and struck out six to earn her seventh win of the season for the Rams while Schmolz also allowed three hits and registered two strikeouts.

The Bobcats (11-22) opened the scoring in game two with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but Borden tripled and came around the score the Rams' first run on the backend of a double-steal with sophomore Jackie Kampmeier (East Norriton, Pa.). Classmate Melissa Wilson (Longview, Wash.) followed with a triple to plate Kampmeier and tie the game at two.

Quinnipiac regained the lead at 3-2 in the fourth before the Rams answered with five runs in their half of the inning to grab a 7-3 lead. Borden drove in a pair of runs with a double to right center, and two batters later, Wilson laced a double to score two more. Sophomore Leah DiBussolo (East Norriton, Pa.) capped the inning with an RBI single. The Bobcats got two in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-6, but committed a pair of errors in the bottom of the inning that allowed the Rams to tack on another run. The game - which lasted two hours and 10 minutes - was called at the end of the frame due to darkness.

Freshman Stacey Stanovich (Northbridge, Mass.) allowed six hits and six runs while striking out three en route to her third win of the season. Jaimie Iaquinto took the loss for Quinnipiac, allowed six hits and seven runs in 3.2 IP.

The Rams return to action Thursday afternoon when they travel to Boston, Mass. for a 4 p.m. contest with Boston University.
