KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island baseball team posted a doubleheader sweep of Saint Joseph's, Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. Game One starter Nick Greenwood (Southington, Conn.) threw a complete-game three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts while Game Two starter Eric Smith (Milford, Conn.) fanned 11 in a no-decision appearance for the Rams. Both numbers are career-highs for the sophomore duo.

Rhody won the first game by a score of 2-0 before taking the second game, 3-1. Senior Jamie Degidio (Narragansett, R.I.) earned his first victory of the season in Game Two, allowing zero hits and striking out two batters in 1.2 innings of relief.

Offensively, the Rams were paced by senior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) - who totaled four hits, three RBI and two runs - and classmate Shaun Hagey (Ephrata, Pa.) - who recorded four hits, two walks and two stolen bases. Freshman designated hitter Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.) went 3-for-4 with a double and used a two-run eighth-inning single seal the win in Game Two.

Zaneski's sixth-inning two-run bomb over the left field fence proved to be all Rhody needed in the first game, as Greenwood was dominant on the mound, hurling the Rams' first complete game of the season and also adding a pickoff and two assists. Greenwood entered the game leading the Atlantic 10 conference with 69 strikeouts and was tied for 34th in the nation. After recording his third performance with 10-or-more K's this afternoon, his season total has climbed to 82 while his ERA has dropped to 3.25 - tops among Rhode Island starters.

The Saturday sweep improves URI's record to 25-21-1 (12-8-1 Atlantic 10) while St. Joe's drops to 15-29 (7-14 Atlantic 10).

Rhody is back in action on Friday, May 9, when it returns to Bill Beck Field to host Massachusetts at 3 p.m.
