KINGSTON, R.I. -- Kaylen Shimoda's two goals in the span of 1:11 in the second half helped Rhode Island to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Richmond on Friday night at the URI Soccer Complex.

Shimoda tallied the game-tying goal at the 60:47 mark, putting a hard shot on-goal from about 15 yards out on the right side. The junior midfielder registered the eventual gamewinner shortly after, taking a Nelli Ruotsalainen pass and beating her defender in the right side of the box.

The goals were Shimoda's team-leading fifth and sixth scores of the season.

Rhody (6-11-1; 4-6 A-10) managed the tempo of the game on the offensive and defensive end for much of the match. The Rams outshot the Spiders (8-9-2; 4-5-1 A-10), 11-3, in the first half.

Richmond's Emily Dale tallied her third goal of the season in the 50th minute, as she and teammate Kelsey Rdzanek combined for the first score of the match. Dale beat her defender on the right side and was able to loft a shot over the head of URI goalkeeper Tara Murphy.

Murphy allowed a goal in UR's only shot on-goal, while the Spiders' Melissa Pacheco made seven saves while allowing two scores.

For the match, the Rams outshot UR, 16-4 - including a 9-1 edge in shots on-goal. Rhody attempted five corner kicks and were whistled for three offsides calls.

The Rams return to action in their 2009 regular season finale at the URI Soccer Complex, when they take on George Washington. The match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and it will mark the final home appearance for five seniors: Ina Bjorklid, Colleen Dowd, Kristie Moltz, Kassandra Spitler, and Amanda Thomas.
