PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior
Keith Cothran scored a game-high 16 points as the Rhode Island men's basketball team picked up a 78-57 season-opening victory over Brown Wednesday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Cothran connected on 6-of-15 of from the field and was one of four players, which scored in double figures.
With the win, Rhody improved to 83-20 in season-openers.
Sophomore Jamal Wilson, junior Delroy James and sophomore Orion Outerbridge chipped in with 14, 12 and 10 points, respectively. Junior Will Martell pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Rhody outscored Browns 47-27 in the second half after it led 31-30 at the end of the first half.
As a team, URI forced Brown into 22 turnovers and held a 44-36 advantage on the glass. On the offensive end, Rhody connected on 45.5% from the field (15-of-33).
URI returns to action on Sunday as it welcomes Holy Cross to the Ryan Center for its home-opener. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
