Box Score
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Junior
Rob Deveney (Marlton, N.J.) belted a two-run eighth-inning double to lead the Rhode Island baseball team past Fairfield, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Chain Lakes Field. Sophomore
Ken Graveline (Prospect, Conn.) earned his first collegiate win on mound for the Rams.
Graveline gave up two hits in 1.1 innings, relieving starter Dan Rossignol (Nashua, N.H.) who struck out five and allowed just one earned run in 5.2 innings of work. Senior Luke Demko (Gilford, N.H.) came on in the eighth and pitched two complete innings to earn his second save of the season.
Fairfield (0-5) led 1-0 after the second inning but Rhody evened things up in the top of the sixth when a double by sophomore Tom Coulombe (Lincoln, R.I.) plated junior Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) and made the score 1-1.
The Stags pulled back ahead (2-1) in the bottom of the sixth, but a three-run eighth inning proved to be all Rhody needed as Fairfield scored just once more in the bottom of the frame.
Dan Gallagher was charged with the loss for Fairfield - which recorded eight hits on the afternoon, compared to just two by URI.
The Rams (6-2) are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on No. 25 Ohio State (Collegiate Baseball) at 3 p.m.
