Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Rhode Island baseball team picked up its 30th win of the season with a 10-4 victory Tuesday afternoon at Holy Cross. Senior Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.), junior Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) and sophomore Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.) each recorded three hits and two runs for the Rams.

Cammans also drove in a pair of runs while sophomore Pete Mastors (Narragansett, R.I.) finished with three RBI on the afternoon.

Sophomore Ken Graveline (Prospect, Conn.) got the win on the mound for the Rams, improving to 5-1 on the season. Rhode Island native John Pedrotty took the loss for the Crusaders.

The victory improves the Rams to 30-13-1 while Holy Cross falls to 21-24. URI has now won 13 of its last 14 games.

Trailing 2-0 after five innings, Rhody came back and plated five runs in the top of the sixth. Palmer got things started with a triple down the left field line. Rhault then singled to right to put Rhody's first run on the board before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Tom Coulombe (Lincoln, R.I.). Junior Rob DeVeney (Marlton, N.J.) then took first on a walk and both runners eventually scored on a two-run double by Cammans.

Cammans would then steal third before coming around to score on a two-out single by redshirt freshman Adam Derner (River Dell, N.J.). Mastors came in to pinch run for Derner and tallied Rhody's fifth run of the inning on a double to right by freshman Milan Adams (Exeter, R.I.).

Holy Cross got a run back in the bottom of the inning but Rhode Island scored four more in its next trip to the plate. Palmer and Rhault led off with back-to-back base hits before a sac-fly by Coulombe made it a 6-3 game. Cammans and freshman Mike LeBel (Quincy, Mass.) were both walked to load the bases for Mastors, who drilled a three-run single down the right field line.

The Crusaders' Steve Tkowski homered in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 9-4, but a ninth-inning first-and-third double-steal play sent DeVeney across the plate to give URI the 10-4 victory.

The Rams are back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Siena for a 4 p.m. game against the Saints.
