BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Kristie Moltz's goal in the 82nd minute proved to be the gamewinner as Rhode Island took a 2-1 victory at Vermont.
Moltz tallied her first goal of the season, finishing a crossing pass from Nelli Ruotsalainen at point blank range, past UVM goalkeeper Eliza Bradley.
The Rams got on the scoreboard first, as Kaylen Shimoda converted a header off a Courtney Findlen pass in the 23rd minute. Rhode Island dominated play in the first 45:00 of play, outshooting the Catamounts, 7-1.
Vermont tied the contest in the 82nd minute, as Gabby Bonfigli's shot rolled into an empty net. She collided with URI goalkeeper Jackie Fede near the top of the penalty box and Fede could not gain possession of the ball. She left the game and was replaced by Tara Murphy after that play.
After the ensuing kickoff, Rhody was able to advance toward the UVM goal. Ruotsalainen served the ball into the box and Moltz toed it past Vermont goalkeeper Eliza Bradley.
Fede played the first 81:02 in goal for Rhode Island, tallying one save while allowing one goal. Murphy made two stops in her 8:58 of play. UVM's Bradley allowed two goals, while stopping three Rhody shots on-goal. URI outshot Vermont, 15-4, while attempting two corner kicks.
URI returns to Kingston on Sunday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.
