Rhode Island Drops 2-1 Decision to Temple on Senior Day

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Rhode Island dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Temple on Sunday afternoon in the final home game of the 2010 regular season.

Temple's Niki Conn converted a header in the box in the 69th minute which proved to be the gamewinner for the Owls (6-10-1; 1-5-1 A-10).

Adrienne Ruhe Lischke got the Rams (2-12-2; 2-4-1 A-10) on the board first at the 19:01 mark, firing a blast from 45-yards out. Her shot, set up by Nelli Ruotsalainen, beat Temple goalkeeper Tara Muphy to the left upper 90.

Conn's first goal of the match tied the score at 1-1 in the 30th minute, heading a shot inside the box to the left side, past URI goalkeeper Sasha Reiber.

She made three saves in goal for Rhode Island, while Murphy made one stop for Temple.

The Rams outshot the Owls, 15-8, but Temple managed a 5-2 edge in shots on-goal. Both teams attempted four corner kicks. Rhody was whistled offsides twice, to one for Temple.

Rhody's three seniors - Agnes Arnadottir, Nelli Ruotsalainen, and Kaylen Shimoda - were honored prior to the match as part of the annual Senior Day ceremonies.

The Rams travel to Philadelphia on Friday, Oct. 29 to face La Salle before taking on Fordham in the regular season finale on Sunday, Oct. 31 in the Bronx, N.Y.
