Box Score
KINGSTON, R.I. - Sophomore Thomas Lindroos
and junior Eric
Hutson both scored goals for Rhode Island, but visiting La
Salle found the back of the net four times to leave the URI Soccer
Complex with a 4-2 victory on Friday night. The loss drops the Rams
to 2-11-2 (0-5-1) while the Explorers improve to 6-6-2 (4-2-0).
Rhody struck first - less than 10 minutes into the game - when
Lindroos registered his second goal of the season on a centering
pass from junior Reece Markman for
the early 1-0 advantage.
However, La Salle responded with back-to-back goals by Ryan Sepe
- at 22:44 and 26:23 - before the Explorer's leading scorer Ryan
Richter netted his 10th goal of the season to make it 3-1 at the
30:33 mark.
After the break, Hutson came on as a sub and later tallied his
first career goal on a sliding shot that found its way past La
Salle's John McCarthy. Senior Jonathan Pereira
was credited with an assist as he played the ball into the six-yard
box on a corner kick.
That was as close as the Rams would get though as Jidell Roach -
who set up the Explorers' second and third goals - collected a
loose ball in front of the net and sent his shot past redshirt
junior goalkeeper Peyton Warwick for
the 4-2 lead with just under 20 minutes remaining in
regulation.
From there, the La Salle back line held Rhody to just one shot
the rest of the way while holding on for the win.
Warwick finished with six saves on the night while McCarthy
blocked two shots for La Salle.
As a team, the Explorers outshot URI, 20-10, including a 10-4
edge in shots on goal. Rhode Island, however, held a 5-3 advantage
in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action for their final home game of the
season on Sunday, when they take on Fordham at 1 p.m. Prior to the
start of the game, Rhode Island will honor its six seniors with a
brief Senior Day ceremony.
