DAYTON, Ohio -- Kaylen Shimoda tallied Rhode Island's lone goal in a 3-1 loss at Dayton on Friday night.
Shimoda tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 16th minute, controlling a deflection from an Adrienne Ruhe Lischke shot and scoring it past UD (11-2; 3-0 A-10) goalkeeper Lisa Rodgers. That score tied the game at 1-1 for the Rams (1-9-1; 1-2 A-10), as Dayton got on the scoreboard just a minute earlier. Rhody and the Flyers went into the halftime break knotted at 1-1, despite a 13-4 edge in shots for the home team.
In the second half, Dayton scored the eventual gamewinner in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick before adding its third goal in the 63rd minute.
URI goalkeeper Sasha Reiber made eight stops in net, while UD's Rodgers stopped two shots. Dayton outshot Rhode Island, 21-10, for the match - including a 12-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Rhode Island returns to action when they face Xavier on Sunday, Oct. 10.
