Delroy James was one of five Rhode Island players to score in double figures as the Rams cruised to a 92-67 victory on Tuesday night at the Ryan Center.
James led all scorers with 23 points, connecting on 9-of-15 from the field. Teammates Nikola Malesevic, Daniel West, Ben Eaves and Akeem Richmond each scored 14, 14, 12, 10 points, respectively. Eaves also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
No team led by more than six points in the first five minutes of the game. Brown's Andrew McCarthy would make it a two-point contest with 14:35 to go in the first half.
Rhody responded to the Bears' run as Richmond scored six straight points to give the Rams a 20-12 lead with 13:32 to go in the first half. Malesevic, senior Marquis Jones and West would then all connect on 3-pointers to give the Rams a 29-13 lead with 11:09 to go in the first half.
Brown cut the Rams lead to 12 (37-25) with 6:13 to go, but URI responded by opening up its largest lead at the 4:29 mark (43-25). Rhody would then go on to take a 49-36 lead into the locker room.
James and Richmond led all scorers in the first half with 10 points apiece.
In the second half, Brown came out firing as it outscored Rhode Island 8-4 to cut the Rams' lead to 53-44 with 16:10 to go in the game.
The Bears remained within nine at the 13:09 mark, but the Rams clamped down defensively as they held Brown without a field goal for nearly five minutes and opened up a 73-48 lead following Eaves' second 3-pointer of the evening.
Rhody would then go on to open up a 31-point lead with 1:06 to go. The Rams' 31-point advantage was their largest of the night.
The Runnin' Rams return to action on Friday as they head to Toledo, Ohio to compete in the 2010 2K Sports Classic against the College of Charleston. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
