Tuesdays with Tanke: Television-less

Aug. 27, 2010

Television-less.

I know this blog is called Tuesday's With Tanke, but for some reason I find schedules and due dates to be constraining and daunting. This is why my editor has given me the green light to write, or not write, whenever I feel like it. But for now, being cooped up on campus without a TV for preseason, I'll probably feel like writing more often than not.

YouTube has really been my savior for last week or so. I highly recommend checking out "Funny Surfer Dude". That's just one of my favorites right now.

And I know what you're thinking. Without a TV, I'm not able to view quality wholesome programming like The Kardashians or The Jersey Shore. But just the other night I actually missed ESPN's latest 30 for 30 film, Jordan Rides the Bus, about Michael Jordan's notorious first retirement that led to him playing minor league baseball. Kind of a bummer that I missed it, but then again, I'm not really interested in re-living an era when Chicago's greatest ever sports hero left The Bulls after winning three straight NBA titles to play baseball for the enemy, The Chicago White Sox.

In terms of entertaining ourselves though, things are moving up. Wednesday was switch over day, where those of us living on campus move into their permanent dorm rooms, and those of us living off campus move into temporary housing in the ZBT frat house. The house has a 50" flat screen TV equipped with Super Mario Bros. on Super Nintendo, a pool table, and a foosball table. From what I've seen, Oscar Zorilla is on another level with Super Mario, everyone is total crap at pool, and foosball is being dominated by Reece "The Flying Texan" Markman and Eric "The Big E" Hutson (these nicknames of course come from pregame talks when OC is fumbling around with names). There might even be a URI Men's Soccer FIFA Tournament in the making, so I know all of you are quivering with excitement.

That's it for this installment. God Bless and Go Rhody!
