Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Old Dominion

Box Score

NORFOLK, Va. - The Rhode Island men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Old Dominion, Friday night in the opening round of the ODU Stihl Soccer Classic. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Peyton Warwick made a career-high nine saves in the loss.

The defeat drops Rhody to 2-1 while the Monarchs - who have yet to concede a goal this season - remain perfect at 3-0.

ODU wasted little time netting what would prove to be the game-winner as Chris Harmon scored off a pass from Frederico Espinach just 5:49 into the match. Rhody countered with an aggressive attack, resulting in eight corner kicks throughout the half, but was unable to get the equalizer and headed into the break down by one.

Old Dominion went on to tally an insurance goal midway through the second frame as Alex Vaughan beat Warwick off a feed from Harmon with 22 minutes remaining in regulation.

Despite holding an 11-4 advantage in corners, the Rams were outshot by a 14-9 margin - including ODU's 9-3 edge in the second half. Freshman Tom Palmer led URI with three shots while Jonathan Pereira had two.

Rhode Island returns to the ODU Soccer Complex to face William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at Noon.
