Hart, Santos Score in 3-2 Home Loss to Maine

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Torey Hart and Stephanie Santos each tallied their first goals of the season in a 3-2 home loss to Maine.

The Black Bears (3-3) got on the board first in the 22nd minute, as Kelsey Wilson took a Nikki Misener pass from the right side and put it in on an open net from about eight yards out.

Rhode Island (0-5-1) would respond with a goal from Hart, set up off a cross from Kaylen Shimoda into the box. Hart controlled the pass and beat Maine goalkeeper Iris Gunnarsdottir to the lower left corner at the 30:02 mark.

Just three minutes later, Santos found the back of the net on a breakaway down the middle. Maggie MacDonald centered the ball from the right side for Santos, making it 2-1 in favor of the Rams. They took the one-goal lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, Maine would tally the equalizer in the 55th minute, as a chip shot by Carolyne Nellis beat Rhody GK Sasha Reiber to the upper right 90. The Black Bears' Wilson would net the eventual gamewinner in the 69th minute, controlling a cross into the left side of the box from about 10 yards out.

For the match, both teams attempted eight shots - six on-goal. Maine's GK Gunnarsdottir made four stops, while URI's Reiber stopped three.

Maine attempted three corner kicks to Rhode Island's two and the two teams combined for 23 fouls (Maine 12, URI 11).

The Rams return to action on Friday, Sept. 17 when they travel to face Harvard at 7 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
