Women's Soccer Host Final Two Games of Season; Sunday Celebrates Seniors

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhody women's soccer will play their final two home games of the 2011 season this weekend at the URI Soccer Complex, hosting A-10 competitors St. Bonaventure (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Duquesne (Sunday, 12:30 p.m.)

Sunday's match will be Senior Day, honoring the careers of six Rams. Midfielder Courtney David, defender Mary Kate Krol and forwards Alexis Veith, Adrienne Ruhe Lischke, Nikkita Persaud and Stephanie Santos will all suit up in their white home jerseys for the final time.

The Rhody-St. Bonaventure Series:

  • Rhode Island leads: 10-6-1 in 17 meetings. The Rams' last win against the Bonnies was on Sept. 28, 2007 in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
  • Last meeting: On Sept. 25, 2009 Rhody fell 2-0 in Kingston, R.I.
  • Current streak: Rhode Island - 2003 (3-0 home), 2004 (1-0 away), 2005 (5-0 away) and 2007 (4-1 away).

The Rhody-Duquesne Series:

  • Rhode Island leads: 6-3-3 in 12 games. Rhody's last victory against the Dukes was on Oct. 27, 2006 in Kingston, R.I.
  • Last meeting: On Sept. 28, 2008 Rhode Island lost 1-0 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
  • Current streak: Rhode Island - 2002 (3-1 away), 2003 (4-0 home), 2004 (2-1 away), 2005 (5-2 home) and 2006 (1-0 home).

The Rhode Island Rams (5-8-1):

  • Picked in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches poll to finish 11th.
  • Surpassed last season's win mark (three), with five so far.
  • Shutout in their last five matches: one non-conference and four A-10.
  • Sit 4-3-0 home.
  • Led, offensively, by senior Stephanie Santos' five goals, with senior Alexis Veith and freshman Dariann Sellitti each scoring two.
  • The Rams have scored 13 total goals to their opponents' 16.
  • Jennifer Barrientos and Madison VanDine are tied for the Rams in shots, with 25 each; Stephanie Santos follows with 24, Ashley Evangelista has 23 and Alexis Veith has taken 20.
  • Freshman Marisa Ammaturo has recorded two assists and 16 shots in 12 games. In Rhode Island's Oct. 6 game against Fordham, had a game-high four shots with three shots-on-goal, earning her her second game of the season leading the Rams in shots, following the Oct. 9 loss at Charlotte.

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies (7-5-3):

  • Selected to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 conference, ending its 2010 season 12-9-0 overall and 5-4-0 in A-10.
  • Five of their seven wins have been shutouts.
  • Stand 3-1-0 away.
  • The Bonnies have netted 18 goals over their opponents' 15
  • Molly Curry is their leading goal-scorer with four, followed by Tori Burchett with three; Burchett and Curry have attempted 36 and 31 shots, respectively.

The Duquesne Dukes (3-10-1):

  • Chosen to finish eighth in the A-10 after ending the 2010 season 9-9-1 overall and 6-3-0 in conference.
  • The Dukes' three wins on the season have all been one-goal winners: Aug. 19 vs. Saint Francis (Pa.) 1-0, Sept. 30 vs. Richmond 1-0 and Oct. 14 vs. Saint Louis 2-1.
  • Record 0-6-0 away.
  • Have scored nine goals compared to their opponents' 25.
  • Morgan Herbert and Katie Rust lead the Dukes in goals with two apiece; Herbert and Paige Maroney have taken 26 and 22 shots, respectively.
