Rhody Blanks Duquesne for Key Win

How it Happened:
Marisa Ammaturo's (Avon, Colo.) goal in the 86th minute guided Rhode Island (11-7-1, 4-4-0 A-10) to a big 1-0 win over Duquesne (6-10-2, 2-5-1 A-10) Friday night. The sophomore's goal came off a penalty kick and found the left side of the net.

Inside the Box Score:

  • URI held an 11-7 advantage in total shots and a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • Rhody took two corners to Duquesne's zero.
  • The Dukes were whistled for 14 fouls while the Rams were called for 10.
  • Both Duquesne's Devon Tabata and Rhode Island's Chelsea Broghamer (San Dimas, Calif.) saved two shots.

Additional Notes:

  • Rams lead the all-time series, 8-3-3.
  • Broghamer improved to 8-2-0 in goal for Rhody this season. 
  • The goal was Ammaturo's second of the season. She now has a total of five points on the season (2 goals, 1 assist).

What's Next:

The Rams continue their push for one of the eight spots in the Atlantic 10 Championship when they close out the regular season at St. Bonaventure (7-10-1, 4-4-0 A-10) Sunday at 1 p.m.

Heading to the final day of the regular season, four teams – La Salle, Dayton, VCU and Butler – have clinched playoff spots. Seven teams – Charlotte, Rhode Island, Fordham, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, Massachusetts and Richmond – remain in contention for the final four spots.

Rhode Island is currently in sixth place, and would clinch a spot with a victory.
