KINGSTON, R.I. – The Rhode Island women's rowing team will host defending NCAA champion Brown this Saturday, April 7. This will be the first time the in-state rivals race in Kingston, as the Rams look to build off a strong opening weekend.
"We are extremely happy to host Brown this weekend," Head Coach Shelagh Donohoe said. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for [Brown coaches] John and Phoebe Murphy and the entire Brown crew."
After successfully defending both the Yankee Cup against Massachusetts and New Hampshire and Resolute Cup against Boston College last weekend, Rhode Island hopes to get a statement win on its home course. In their last meeting with Brown in Providence, the Bears swept all four races. Donohoe said her team is focused and working to improve in what will be its toughest test thus far.
"Our team has prepared well this week," Donohoe said. "After last week's race, we were able to identify some areas that really needed to be worked on. The team is focused and working hard to put out a consistently fast product on race day."
Racing is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. at URI's Campanella Rowing Center.
