Box Score How it Happened:
The Rhode Island Rams held on for a 2-1 victory over the Vermont Catamounts on Friday night at the URI Soccer Complex. Rhode Island native, Ari Stanton (Cranston, R.I.), started the game off for the Rams in the 43rd minute when she received a pass from Jennifer Barrientos (Reseda, Calif.) and finished to the far post. Vermont tied it up in the second half when Alexandra Dezenzo scored on a cross from teammate Bre Pletnik. Rhody's winning goal came when Lucy Gildein's (Topsfield, Mass.) pass from midfield led Ashley Evangelista (Methuen, Mass.) to goal. Evangelista took a great first touch and shot it past the keeper to go up 2-1. Rhode Island junior goalkeeper, Chelsea Broghamer (San Dimas, Calif.) came up big with a diving save to prevent Dezenzo's shot from tying the game. The Catamounts fought to the final minutes when they crashed the goal with all 11, but time expired before a shot could be fired. Rhode Island improves to 6-2-1 on the season and Vermont falls to 1-6-0.
