How It Happened
Rhode Island (8-21, 3-13 Atlantic 10) battled Massachusetts throughout, but ended its season with a 75-66 loss Saturday.
The Rams pulled within two points with 3:38 to go, but the Minutemen (19-10, 9-7 Atlantic 10) closed the game on an 11-4 run to pull away down the stretch. Point guard Chaz Williams scored the final five points for Massachusetts and finished the game with 20 points, 10 assists and four rebounds.

- Seniors Andre Malone, Nikola Malesevic and Ryan Brooks were honored during a pregame ceremony. Senior Alwayne Bigby also played his final game as a Ram. A graduate student, Bigby was honored last season before his final game at Northeastern.
- Malone scored 19 points, grabbed five rebounds and had three assists. Malesevic finished with 11 points, four rebounds, two blocks and one assist.
- Junior Xavier Munford scored a game-high 21 points and finished the season with 504 total points. He is the first Ram to score 500 points in one season since Delroy James had 595 points during the 2010-11 season. Munford scored in double digits in 25 out of 29 games this year, including 11 games of 20 points or more.
- Freshman Jordan Hare had two blocked shots, giving him 49 for the season. It is the third highest single-season mark by a freshman in school history, trailing only Kenny Green (63 in 1986-87) and Antonio Reynolds-Dean (59 in 1995-96).
- Sophomore Mike Powell had five points and eight assists. Powell ended the season with 113 assists, making him the first Rhody player since Tyson Wheeler to top 100 assists in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. Wheeler had 135 as a freshman in 1994-95 and 203 as a sophomore in 1995-96.
- Massachusetts had a big edge on the boards, outrebounding Rhode Island 40-26. Cady Lalanne was a major reason for the advantage, as he finished with 15 rebounds and eight points.
- Rhode Island only turned the ball over seven times. The Rams ended the season with 350 turnovers, an improvement of 86 from last season.
- Both teams shot very well from the floor. Massachusetts was 24-of-51 (47.1 percent) from the floor, including 11-for-20 (55 percent) from beyond the arc. Rhode Island shot 23-of-52 (44.2 percent) from the floor, and 9-for-21 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range.
